Garuda

Garuda encompasses the principles of Pilates, the breath work and asana practices of Yoga, the self-perception of Feldenkrais and the grace and athleticism of dance. Where Pilates ends, Garuda begins!

Garuda’s results are striking: increased strength, flexibility, coordination and endurance, a stronger leaner, body and improved posture, as well as a greater sense of ease and well-being.

The Garuda System was developed by James D’Silva and encompasses a wide variety of class types including Matwork, Barre and Chair, as well as apparatus and small equipment classes, such as Yoga Bricks and rollers.

Kat is qualified in Garuda Matwork, Chair and Garuda Brick.

Garuda Matwork

Garuda Matwork is a Pilates-based system that builds gradually from the micro to the macro. Movements start by isolating individual muscles and then move on to the myofascial lines they belong to. This gradual formulaic approach makes it especially effective for people with dysfunction or imbalances. All of the exercises are systematically devised to bring your mind back into exercise while making your body the leanest, strongest and most flexible it has ever been.

Garuda Chair – Dhara

A dynamic sitting class that combines Pilates, Yoga, dance, Feldenkrais and the Alexander Technique. This seated workout makes the more advanced repertoire easily available to the remedial client. A lot of emphasis is placed on energy work, and certain aspects of ayurvedic massage and marmara point work are brought in to this meditative practice. Dhara is the cosmic flow which interlinks us to everything around and within us. The Garuda Chair is a very strengthening, calming and nurturing process. It allows you to discover the root and the essence of your movement. It floods you with the confidence to move and encourages you to cherish the joy of stillness.

Garuda Brick – Graha

The Garuda brick – or Graha – class is an innovative and functional workout, using the Pilates principles and repertoire to instigate bilateral symmetry and stability of the pelvis, whist creating lower limb strength and functionality. Garuda brick also targets the upper body with a set of exercises designed to strengthen and mobilise the upper body and arms. Balance is another integral part of this work. Garuda brick also helps with improving balance.
